ISRAEL

The land of Israel is central to the biblical narrative. It was to this land (then known as “Canaan”) that God called Abraham from Ur of the Chaldeans. It was back to this land that he led Moses and the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt. And it was this land that he gave to Joshua and the Israelites in the conquest. There he established the kingdom of Israel, beginning with Saul, David, and Solomon. Due to the covenant disobedience of his people, God uprooted them from the land. Later, by his grace, he replanted them there.

Ultimately, God sent his only unique Son to this land, where he became the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. There the apostles first preached the gospel, and the church of Christ was established. From that place, the gospel began to be spread throughout the whole world.
